FORT WORTH, Texas (August 20, 2018) – Fun 2 Discover, a STEAM Club Strategies, Inc. program that provides interactive Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics learning tools and resources for children, will serve as the presenting sponsor for Texas Motor Speedway’s Speeding To Read educational program.

The award-winning reading program for Dallas/Fort Worth-area elementary school students, which is entering its eighth year, will be integrated with Fun 2 Discover to further encourage students to learn about STEAM-based subjects through a unique, incentive-based points system to earn prizes. In conjunction with the announcement, the program also unveiled a new logo.

Texas Motor Speedway’s Speeding To Read S.T.E.A.M. Powered by Fun 2 Discover will continue to focus on its core objective of encouraging elementary school students to read more frequently, but also give individuals, classrooms and entire schools the opportunity to partake in interesting Fun 2 Discover projects such as constructing rockets, building and programming robots, using weather stations and completing interesting projects throughout the school year.

Fun 2 Discover – www.fun2discover.com – is open and free to all Speeding To Read S.T.E.A.M. Powered by Fun 2 Discover schools with the opportunity to win grand prizes such as drones, robots, iPads, telescopes, cameras, and more. The company will provide nearly $30,000 in prizes and resources for the competition exclusively among the schools in the program, which also includes rewarding the top readers throughout the competition.

Fun 2 Discover also is creating a mobile interactive display, which will include six racing simulators that will visit some of the top-reading schools prior to the AAA Texas 500 NASCAR tripleheader set for Nov. 2-4 and the O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 tripleheader March 29-31, 2019 at Texas Motor Speedway.

The display will be featured in Texas Motor Speedway’s FanZone during those race weekends, including hosting the Speeding To Read S.T.E.A.M. Powered by Fun 2 Discover Champions Celebration for the program’s top readers and their families prior to the O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race on Sunday, March 31.

Speeding To Read S.T.E.A.M. Powered by Fun 2 Discover is coming off a record-breaking 2017-18 where 21 schools and 12,061 students from eight different ISDs – all program highs – took part in the competition. Since the program’s inception in 2011 with one pilot school, Speeding To Read has had 64 schools and 35,735 students participate and they collectively have read more than 5.2 million books.

The program is free and the schools that have previously participated range from affluent areas to economically disadvantaged communities with a diverse student make-up. The competition is multi-layered with individuals, classrooms and schools competing against each other to read the most books and earn the title of Speeding To Read World Champion.

The Speeding To Read competition runs from September through March of the school year and it is split into four turns (or quarters) with the top readers being rewarded at each of those turns. At the conclusion of the competition, the individuals and classrooms that read the most books cumulatively, along with the school that had the highest percentage of its student body meet the year-long reading goals, are crowned world champions. The champions are rewarded with a variety of items, including trophies, race tickets, driver school visits, ice cream and frozen custard parties, motorsports merchandise, and more, for excelling in the program.

The program has a dedicated website www.speedingtoread.com that features results, news stories, photos and videos from the competition and associated events that is available to faculty, parents and the general public.
